2006
Happy New Year to All of
You!
Retail Store News:
We're
pleased to announce that Greenlyph has once again outdone it's self.
Every record has been broken and we expect another great year!
Here's a quick list of records
that we've broken for the 4th Quarter of 2005 and for all
of 2005:
Highest
one day volume record has been broken 5 consecutive times in the
latter part of the 4th Quarter of 2005.
Highest
monthly volume since company has been created was done in December
2005.
An
increase of 14% over last year of per invoice volume total. This
means that the average invoice was 14% higher than previous year.
People are just buying larger systems and / or picking up more units
at a time than last year.
An increase of 37% of total invoices made on
average for 2005 over 2004.
December was the first Month in history that
Greenlyph has seen an increase in all Category of products sold. EX:
Hard Drives: 32% increase, Memory: 47% increase, Motherboards: 23%
increase and lowest being networking in the amount of 11%. This
increase is comparing 2004 vs 2005 of per unit sold. We've also
looked at previous to next month increase, yearly total to previous
and previous best month compared to new best month on record and the
numbers come out about the same with some slight variances.
There has been some very good reductions in
defective hardware and returns. This decline in long term possible
issues and or losses have been in large part due to the massive
increase in AMD sales and the quality of the AMD product over the
Intel products. In other words: Because of our long standing
philosophy that we have to not carry products with historical issues
and quickly fazing out products(brands and product lines) that have
earlier on cause unwanted issues we have been able to reduce the
quantity or returns and increase client satisfaction. AMD helped by
producing a cooler processor and the manufacturers of supporting
hardware have uncreased the quality of their components to be more
competitive so as to retain or gain market share during the market
switch to AMD over the Intel line of products. Long story short; We
don't sell low end, our products don't die and it allows us to offer
faster and better solutions to the end user... Everyone wins..
Now, these facts are even more impressive when you look
at data supplied by National Suppliers / Distribution Centers in this
industry. For example: National Distribution Centers and Suppliers
have noticed a decrease in 2005 across the board. Now, the
percentages of decrease really depend on the Distribution Centers and
what lines of products they carry, but all agree that there was a
decrease this year of anywhere from 7 to 18%. So, in turn, same store
sales should have seen a decrease of roughly that percentage
depending on their market. These facts were apparent within our
localized market with the loss of 6 retails stores that have been in
this industry for more than one year. There was also some strange
shifts in the market with some small stores looking to expand outside
of their feasible range, some stores over extending themselves with
advertising budgets well over the possible gains from these ads and
the addition of another mismanaged store without any true identity
within this market. In my opinion this will prove to be a fatal move
on their part. I'm not knocking the effort that they're making at
all. However, I've seen it millions of times before and can smell
death from miles away now.
New RMA Policy that took
effect in the latter part of 2005 and some clarification on this
Policy:
As of early in November
2005 we have implemented and over the counter exchange for all
Western Digital Hard Drives.
Here is how this new over the counter exchange
policy works:
The Hard Drives must
be manufactured by Western Digital
They must still be
under Manufacturers Warranty and be eligible for exchange within the
Canadian market.
The Hard Drives must
be 80gb(IDE/SATA) or larger to qualify. Any Hard Drive smaller in
size and or be specialty drives(SCSI, Raptor, Laptop Drives) do not
qualify.
We do not
require a receipt to exchange any Qualified drives that are
under Western Digital Warranty.
The Western Digital Drives do not have to
be purchased at Greenlyph retail or Distribution to qualify for over
the counter exchange.
We will not be doing Data back ups on defective
drives. Data is not under warranty.. haha, some people do think it
is though.
We reserve the right to refuse any drives that
have physical damage. Broken pin, burnt boards or any other damages
that we find.
We reserve the right to exchange the drive with a
larger one if your model drive is not available.
Warranty on the exchanged drives are 7 days over
the counter exchange. Anything drive defective after 7 days can be
sent to Western Digital for RMA exchange. Greenlyph can do the paper
work for you if required.
Hard Drives purchased at Future Shop / Dell / HP /
Compaq or any big block retailers do not qualify as they don't have
a manufacturers warranty. Their products carry “Limited”
warranties and are only valid for one year from date of purchase and
returnable only at the place or purchase..
This should clear up any questions you may have on
getting an over the counter exchange on your Western Digital
products.
Here are some other brands that Greenlyph will do
over the counter exchange with regardless of where you purchased the
products:
OCZ Memory has a
lifetime exchange warranty. Power supplies warranty are anywhere
from 3 to 5 years.
OKIA Power Supplies
450w and 550w and they carry a one year warranty
AMD CPUs unless
they're not a current model.
Anyways, I've had enough of writing for today.. Have
a good year people and enjoy life, you've only got one!!!
Frank!

Inventory News:
As some of you may have noticed we've
added new products categories to our site and also have classified
some products as “obsolete”.
Here is a quick list of Products that have been added:
Laptops, Yup, Laptops... - We
will be bringing more and more laptops as regular stock, some have
added some already and will be added more in the weeks to come. Most
of the Laptops that we've added will be configurable on the spot.
What this means to you, the end user, is simple; You will now be
able to not only have the laptop same day but also be able to pick
and chose what you want in the laptop without having to pay for
items you don't need or want. This will make it possible for you to
upgrade your laptop long term.
OCZ high end memory has been added... - There's a massive
demand in Nova-Scotia for higher end products that previously has
not been available or offered by retailers. This is honestly a sad
thing as far as I'm concerned.... By offering higher end products
what we're doing is making it possible for the local computer
enthusiasts to purchase their items in their own community instead
of having to purchase out of province. This does two things; It
makes it easier for the end user to get service on their possible
defective products and also creates jobs in the community by keeping
the money within this community. Buy local people, its good for the
local economy. - OCZ and Greenlyph have also just set up a
National Advertising Campaign that will launch on the 5th
day of September 2005. This National Ad Campaign is meant to promote
Greenlyph as the largest OCZ Online Reseller, Retail and System
builder in Atlantic Canada. We at Greenlyph intend on Keeping our
long standing relationship with OCZ Canada and will work hard at
remaining the very best high end memory provider for all of Atlantic
Canada.
MP3 Players... - Right now we are testing the market for
higher end MP3 players. This means that any MP3 player you see
listed on our site for the month of August and September 2005 will
only be listed at that price but will have additional discounts only
offered at the retail store at time of purchase. This instore only
promotion is intended to help promote that category of products and
make it easier for the end user to buy better products at a better
price.
Nvidia GeForce 7800.... - Friggen fast as hell in SLI...
What else do you need to know.... :) We have these cards by eVGA,
XFX, Leadtek.. We will not carry the lower end ones like the MSI,
Chaintech or Gigabyte versions.. We just don't see the point in
selling low end high end cards..
Now, for the list of Products that Greenlyph Sees as
“Obsolete”:
Any products relating to Socket 478 by Intel. - Any and
all CPUs and Motherboards in Socket 478 by intel will no longer be
regular stock at Greenlyph. This change is long overdue and has been
pending for about two months now. If you require an older but still
available product for this socket we can still get them for you but
there will be a delay of 2~3 days. Prices will not be updated online
but you can call in for a price on any CPU and of Motherboard. Since
these products will no longer be offered as regular stock we will be
discounting them to near cost when ordered in advance.
Any products relating to Socket
462 by AMD. - Why would anyone buy Socket 462 boards and or CPUs
Now.....??? Socket 754 boards at least give you the options to
upgrade to 64Bit CPUs if need be and the returns on them are next to
none. Its just crazy to buy them when newer format boards cost about
the same and can give you much better long term upgradability..
Enough said... ;)
Well, I'm done for today...
Frank PS: I know that we haven't
been updating our news as often as we should.. Sorry to all the blog
readers out there..

Monday March 7th 2005
Sorry for the
slow updates.. ;) I just didn't have the time do update this section
during the busy season.
On December 27th
news we gave you all an idea of where we where heading as a retail
store. Today I'll update you all on what we accomplished on that list
and what are our objectives for 2nd Quarter 2005.
Here is the 1st Quarter 2005 list and
Accomplishments:
Nvidia Video Cards will be
regular stock. ** The 6600 and the 6800 Are now regular stock in
PCI-E only. We will not have in inventory the older AGP Nvidia
Cards**
Small form factor cases for Media
PC's will be regular stock. **The Pundit Series cases by ASUS
have been brought in and so have the Shuttles but the volume on
these have been very low**
Used inventory will be
reimplemented as regular stock. **We now have used systems in
stock and will continue to offer used systems for those who need
them**
More variances of LGA 775 Motherboards with gradual decline
of S478 until removed completely. **LGA 775 is a flop... S478
steady. ??** **The issue with LGA 775 is that too many
manufacturers made too many motherboards. No one knows what to offer
their clients, what's stable(can't test, don't have, don't care) and
can't justify the increase in price over the S478 format. There are
some very good boards for this form factor though. EX: ASUS P5GD2 –
Premium is a very nice stable board but the price tag of $250ish is
just not acceptable for a mainstream board. So IMHO: Until the
manufacturers are able to make it easier for consumers to pick a
board Intel will be left behind. Sad but true....**
More variances of S939 Motherboards and the complete removal
of S462. **Greenlyph has more AMD S939 Motherboards in stock than
any other retailer in eastern Canada. S754 has been reduced to 2~3
models for Sempron and Smallish 64Bit CPUs/Systems on budget. S462
is still selling fine for the small budget consumer.
PCI Express
will be the big thing in 2005 and we intend on dominating that form
factor as we did for AGP. ** PCI-E is the way to go now, AGP is
now only sold for older systems and budget systems...**

Staff News
Greenlyph is again looking to hire a
part time employee that may turn into full time work. Requirements
are the same as before; someone with little to no retail experience,
but social and computer skills are necessary. Email resumes to
jeremy@greenlyph.com
Monday December 27th 2004
What a Crazy, Crazy Month it's been!
The month of December has been much
busier than we expected. Online sales this month matched all of the
previous Months online sales. System sales where out of this world!!
The big thing this year where Employee purchase plans and seeing as
we did many of those a day really made an impact at the monthly
totals.
Retail News:
We will be making some changes at
Greenlyph in the first Quarter of 2005.
Some of these changes include:
Nvidia Video Cards will be
regular stock.
Small form factor cases for Media
PC's will be regular stock.
Used inventory will be
reimplemented as regular stock.
More variances of LGA 775
Motherboards with gradual decline of S478 until removed completely.
More variances of S939
Motherboards and the complete removal of S462.
PCI Express will be the big thing
in 2005 and we intend on dominating that form factor as we did for
AGP.
Product News:
We have been fighting on a daily basis with
LG Canada to get all the DVD Burners replaced and have found that two
month for replacement is just unexceptable. So be warned! If you have
an LG(Lucky Goldstar) product that needs to be sent for RMA it
will take for ever! You can contact them direct at 1-888-542-2623. We
started this round of RMAs with them in early November only to be
told that after 50 days that they no longer have them in stock for
replacement and are back ordered..(this is after they said they
shipped the product out) “Funny” I said... “I can
still buy them but you can't replace them?”. “Hmm, looks
like you care more about selling the product than fixing the issues
with them”. His reply to that was: “Sir, we have too many
to replace and could not possibly be expected to have that type of
quantity on hand”.. Wow... That's retarded! Anyways, needless
to say that i will not be buying any not so lucky Goldstar products
again.

Retail News:
Looks like Christmas rush has started early this year!
For those of you looking for a system under the tree please do
contact us as early as possible. We're doing our best to be able to
offer same day turn around but due to stock levels at primary
distribution centers there might be some delays.
In previous years some parts have become back ordered to the point
of non existence(EX: 9800pro are in very low supply but the
all-in-wonder 9800pro are available). Just be aware that if you
need/want specific items you might have to reserve in advance.
Store news:
Retail sales are way up for the month of November, On line sales
have increased to the point where we will need to hire staff just to
manage it.
DVD Burner, Hard Drives, Memory, Motherboards and CPUs selling
faster than I've seen in the past. Even at previous stores that I've
built the volume of items where nothing compared to what we're doing
now. EX: We're going through cases of DVD Media per day.. I have no
clue how many movies you guys have but it's gotta be an insane
amount.. :) By the time the 8x Media shows up they're nearly all sold
out?? I can't possibly order more??
Stock levels at the retail store are very high.. All items on the
site are in stock at all time asides from the back ordered items that
are out of my control.
Special orders have increased once again... If you require and
special order part that you don't see on our site please do let us
know by emailing specialorders@greenlyph.com
Wholesale News:
All resellers should be aware that it this time of year there are
possibilities of back orders that are out of our control. Please make
sure Allocate more time for completion of systems. All quantities of
20 units or more must be placed 4 working days before needed or you
might be in a tight bind once the buying frenzy starts.
Daily Specials News:
Our daily specials will be rotated faster than normal due to the
higher than expected volume. If it's on the site it's good.. We can't
reserve them for weeks to come as they sell out quite fast. If you
want a Daily Special but can't make it to the retail store that day
please do submit it On line. We will only hold the parts for a
maximum of two days.
Enjoy the Christmas season.. It doesn't get any better than this!
:)
